best-friend-of-the-bride

While I can’t provide the typical bride point-of-view, being on this journey alongside my bride has given me an insight into the world of bridal planning. Hot on the heels of my latest travel adventure, I have returned to reality with a mailbox overflowing with wedding invitations.

My first wedding, a July destination in sunny Puerto Rico is a white only party. Parallel to the idea exhibited in Solange Knowles wedding, I am required to wear white…. my motivation for a major slim down in the next couple months. Though the dress must be white, the accessory policy is quiet liberal, which means that I can play up my personality through shoes, bags and jewels!

Always eager to prepare early my first goal is to slim down and though I love my carbs… I have instituted a no bread policy or more accurately a limited white flour policy, because lets face it… Who can completely cut out bread? However, as an eternal sweet eater, recipes like Chocolate Chia Seed Pudding keep me from stuffing my face.

I have my heart set on a Halston Heritage number and there is a snug one sitting within a garment bag in my closet. As part of the bridal party, it is necessary to participate in a shopping excursion with my bride-to-be but the dress was so beautiful and came with a generous return policy, so I couldn’t help sitting with it for a couple of weeks. For those brides who are not opting for a white only wedding, the dress is also a perfect for a bridal shower or bachelorette party because it is universally flattering while being impeccably stylish!

In additional to the dress, a girl is never complete without the proper accessories. For jewelry I turned to Nina Shoes, a go-to brand for bridal and evening footwear. While they are known for their shoes, they have a wonderful bridal and jewelry selection. This season the Swarovski infused celestial collection is perfect, with its star studded sparkled pieces.

Though the wedding is a few months away, it is an obligation of any bridesmaids (and a best friend) to help out when needed. My bride, a non-demanding corporate professional has excellent taste. Currently, we are on the hunt for sky-high heels to pair perfectly with her beautiful gown. My suggestion is for some bold, colorful heels to complement her style and the beautiful location. Before we hit the department stores and boutiques, we are option for a trip to the Gilt Warehouse Sale to see if we are lucky enough to find some designer duds at bargain prices.

As for now, my friend’s destination wedding is a work in progress, with all the details to be determined. Our search for affordability without sacrificing style is keeping my free time occupied.

P.S. – Stay tuned for all the deets of my adventures at the Gilt Sale and dress shopping!

ask away: expensive taste.

Another round of ‘ask away’! This time a frustrated friend is boggled by the expensive taste of the bride in her life and is stuck on what to gift her at her shower. Read on to see what I had to say in response!

She asked…

“Mrs. Why Knot – What do you do about people who have absurd items on their wedding registry? (i.e. everything Waterford Crystal) Who would want to give ONE wine glass for $100 when $100 is the limit I am spending?!”

ask away – bridesmaid proposal.

Proposing to your bridal party can be as difficult for a bride as it was for her hubby to propose! Last week, I was contacted by a future MRS. who was looking for a creative way to propose to her bridesmaids who are sprinkled all throughout the country.

She asked…

Subject: Bridesmaids

Message Body:
Hi! I was wondering if you had any cute/creative ways to ask “will you be my bridesmaid”?

I would love to do it in a fun way, but at a loss for ideas given they are all over the country… any thoughts or tips would be awesome.

Thanks!
L
